“are there any plants that iguanas won’t eat?”

Though beautiful, plants such as Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and anything with bright flowers, may serve as an attractant to iguanas. Iguanas have excellent vision and will spot these food sources from very far away.  Iguanas have proven to be extremely adaptive. Very few plants are safe if iguanas are around. However, the following plants have proven to be more resistant and less attractive to iguanas. Below is a list of plants that should be considered when planning a change in landscaping:

  • Simpson stopper (Myrcianthes fragrans)

  • Ti plant (Cordyline fruticosa)

  • Chenille (Acalypha hispida)

  • Cordyline (Cordyline australis)
